More About Engagement, Less About Numbers

At first, it's easy to assume that a brand's success is based solely on the numbers. How many followers do I have? How many pageviews am I getting? And I'm not saying that brands with large followings aren't successful; almost all of the time, they are. But trending now is a focus towards engagement; how a brand is communicating with its customers, the relationship they are building with one another, and how beneficial that is to increasing reach.

To put it simply, making time to engage with your audience takes time. Gone are the days were brands use "follow for follow" tactics, and what's IN is spending time building true and meaningful relationships with your group. Asking questions, giving detailed answers, and overall showing more of WHO you are and WHAT you're about is what's working in the social media world.

3 Signs You Need a Social Media Strategist

So, how the heck are you supposed to make time for increasing engagement, when you've already got an ever-growing list of day-to-day tasks for your business? Team up with a social media strategist! If you find yourself in any of the following three scenarios, it may be time for us to chat:

  1. You're not getting enough engagement on your posts: If you're using your social media platforms as business accounts, check your insights to calculate your engagement rate. Your rate is calculated by the likes and comments received, divided by the number of followers at the time of the post. Over time, seeing an increase in engagement would be ideal, and shooting for at least 10% engagement rate per post is a good goal to start with.
  2. You're not repurposing old content: producing new posts and/or products is important for staying relevant and bringing in new business, but what about the awesome content you've already created? It takes time to curate archived material, and a social media strategist can put in the time and effort it takes to repurpose those oldies-but-goodies.
  3. You're struggling with a social media strategy: do you find yourself posting to social media randomly, and whenever you feel like it (or remember)? Working with a social media strategist to nail down a specific strategy could be the key to drawing in more engagement and business.
